چکیده

The temperature dependence of quantum Hall conductivities is studied in the context AdS/CMT paradigm using a model with bulk theory consisting (3+1)-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell action coupled to dilaton and an axion, negative cosmological constant. We consider solution which has Lifshitz like geometry dyonic black-brane bulk. There $Sl(2,R)$ corresponding electromagnetic duality, maps between classical solutions, broken $Sl(2,Z)$ by Dirac quantisation dyons. This translates modular group on 2-dimensional transverse conductivities. infra-red then linked forms via gradient flow resulting diagrams show remarkable agreement existing experimental data both integral fractional

Duality and the Modular Group in the Quantum Hall Effect

We explore the consequences of introducing a complex conductivity into the quantum Hall effect. This leads naturally to an action of the modular group on the upper-half complex conductivity plane. Assuming that the action of a certain subgroup, compatible with the law of corresponding states, commutes with the renormalisation group flow, we derive many properties of both the integer and fractio...

Infinite Symmetry in the Quantum Hall Effect

Free planar electrons in a uniform magnetic field are shown to possess the symmetry of area-preserving diffeomorphisms (W -infinity algebra). Intuitively, this is a consequence of gauge invariance, which forces dynamics to depend only on the flux. The infinity of generators of this symmetry act within each Landau level, which is infinite-dimensional in the thermodynamical limit. The incompressi...

Modular Symmetry and Fractional Charges in N = 2 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills and the Quantum Hall Effect

The parallel rôles of modular symmetry in N = 2 supersymmetric SU(2) Yang-Mills and in the quantum Hall effect are reviewed. In both cases modular symmetry implies a fractal structure for the vacuum with an infinite hierarchy of related phases connected by quantum phase transitions. Infra-red fixed points at strong coupling correspond to θ-vacua, respectively Hall conductivities σH , with θ, re...

Γ(2) Modular Symmetry, Renormalization Group Flow and the Quantum Hall Effect

We construct a family of holomorphic β-functions whose RG flow preserves the Γ(2) modular symmetry and reproduces the observed stability of the Hall plateaus. The semi-circle law relating the longitudinal and Hall conductivities that has been observed experimentally is obtained from the integration of the RG equations for any permitted transition which can be identified from the selection rules...
